Why play offline?

Because you won't hear any of the sound effects or music if you play online.

Okay, so how do I play offline?

To download the files you'll need and get the game started, follow A, B and C below:

A. Use this link to download the zipped Six game bundle for any OS (9.1 MB)

The bundle includes the story file six.gblorb, the PDF manual, Demi’s map of the park and the cover art. If you haven’t played Interactive Fiction or text adventures before, the manual is for you.

B. To run the story file, you’ll need to download a free Interactive Fiction Interpreter for your OS.

Below I list four interpreters suitable for playing Six (list last updated 24 November, 2023). They're listed in order of suitability for this game by operating system, so just read down the options and download the first interpreter you encounter that will work for you:

Option 1: WinGit or WinGlulxe (Windows only)
  • All game features supported

WinGit is basically the same as WinGlulxe, but faster.

Download the latest WinGit installer from the IF Archive or
Download the latest WinGlulxe installer from the IF Archive

Option 2: Spatterlight (Mac only)
  • All game features supported
  • Best text to speech support on Mac

To run current Spatterlight, your Mac's OS must be version 10.13 (High Sierra) or newer.

To download Spatterlight, go to the Spatterlight Github page then click the Spatterlight.zip link for the latest release.

Option 3: Gargolye (Mac, Windows, Linux)
  • All game features supported
  • CON: Gargolye's preferences are hard to understand or change
  • CON: On Macs, only 2019+ Gargoyle supports any kind of text to speech

Download 2023 Gargoyle for Windows (You'll have to pick the right version for your Windows system when you get there)
Download 2023 Gargoyle for Silicon-based Macs
Download 2023 Gargoyle for Intel-based Macs using macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
Download 2023 Gargoyle for Intel-based Macs using macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later (yes, the filename includes Mojave, referring only to the system it was built on)
Download 2017 Gargoyle for macOS 10.12 (Sierra) (no text to speech support)
Download 2011 Gargoyle for macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) or earlier (no text to speech support)
Go to the Github download page for Linux (You'll have to pick the right version for your Linux system when you get there)

Option 4: Lectrote (Mac, Windows, Linux)
  • CON: No sound
  • Supports graphics, but
  • CONS: no coloured text, and the status window colour can't be changed
  • CON: Shortest scrollback history of any interpreter
  • ... Game presentation is otherwise highly customisable!

Go to the download page for macOS, Windows and Linux (Pick the download for your OS when you get there)

C. Unzip and/or installl the interpreter you just downloaded, then open the story file (Six.gblorb) in it and play!

You can start the game either by OPENing the file Six.gblorb from within the interpreter, or perhaps by dragging and dropping Six.gblorb on the interpreter app.
